First Person I See Wearing Google Glass Will Get Punched In The Face

Google glass/glasses are a brand new way for Google to slap ads in front of your face. OK slightly cynical of me, and I admire the technology, but sorry I can just see this getting abused, the ability to walk about and film people, although using it to look up girls skirts sounds fun, I would prefer to be told if someone wants to film me.

First we had those stupid cellphone ear cyborg devices where you see people ‘talking to themselves’ – now we will have people walking about with the Glass.

Technology should benefit mankind, and this just feels like a breach of everyone’s privacy. Google notorious for breaching privacy rules in both the U.S and Europe will have access to all your data when wearing the Glass. What they will do with this information is anyone’s guess, but I would imagine it will relay back in to making more money through advertising.

Some uses would be good like live filming of events, or maybe to stop crime, hell even the Police should already have these devices, as they can record on the fly without having to pull out a camera, so there is a use!

Here are some comments I found on another site:

One of those gadgets left at home after a while.

are they waterproof and drop proof if so i will wait until they come down to 25 quid before i buy,,,,,,

Funny and true for the most part. Will the Glass just get left at home? Well I can’t see me going to the bar with them on, or on a date, or…

The thing what I would say in its favour is that its branded. Unlike most of Google’s products, they simply stick the word Google at the beginning, this has its own logo, and branding, has nice packaging, seems they are taking a leaf out of Apple’s book, that being that consumers want better designs…something that just ‘looks good’.

Obviously with new adopters it will sell, the price isn’t cheap though, it will cost around $1500 when it goes on sale later this year. The problem is will it gain mass adoption, and if it does, what will society be like? Maybe it will be something similar to the minority report, with everyone ‘connected’ all the time. However in reality this will most likely not occur. Will you be the cool kid and get Glass?

Liberating Theory A Book Worthy Reading

A collectively authored volume that provides a unique conceptual framework for understanding contemporary US society and history, and developing a dynamic vision and strategy for social change. The authors combine and transcend various theories of history (marxism, anarchism, feminism, and nationalism) to develop an alternative conceptual framework, complementary holism. Applying this framework to questions of economics, politics, gender, race, and culture highlights the usefulness of complementary holism for understanding society and strategizing its transformation. Liberating Theory provides concepts that promote “autonomy within solidarity.” It rejects the idea that any one oppression is primary while all others are secondary and it provides a vehicle for activists to share intellectual tools, visionary aims, and practical strategies so as to support and work with one another without compromising the integrity of their own desires.

Pervasive Gaming

The socio-cultural trend of electronic gaming has become ubiquitous. Based on research it is approximated that 97% of 12-17 yr olds play video games. What is, nevertheless, more fascinating, is the fact therefore do nearly 70% of the heads of American homes.

What about the age the average gamer? Not 12 to 17, but astonishingly 34. One study discovered that 35% of C-level professionals are game players and 47% of gamers are girls.

According to Jane McGonigal, the overseer of game research and improvement at Palo Alto–based Institute for the Future, internationally 350 zillion individuals invest a around three thousand hrs each week playing video games. OK the last part is a joke, but it is a lot….

The pc gaming sub-culture is about forty years of age. The old farts are it seems addicted! It has, nevertheless, an extremely active forty years age demographic. It is approximated that players have invested the equal of 5.7 thousand years gaming. McGonigal places this in some perspective by pointing out that this is just how many years have passed because the first primate began walking erect!

The virality and stickiness of internet sites is pushing this development. DoubleClick estimations concur that Facebook receives 33 million visits from its consumer base each month. These users click on 31 pages per visit and stay for over 23 minutes, creating a sensational 1.4 million user years per month. CityVille, a well-liked Facebook game by Zynga went from zero customers to 100 zillion users in 41 short days! Games have very definitely become a popular entertainment for many ages. Movie sales have even been exceeded by some of the most successful video games. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare three, which franchise was first started in Nov, 2011, was probably the most successful product release in history, grossing more than $1 million in its first 16 days of launching. In contrast, the most successful film of 2011, Harry Potter and also the Deathly Hallows Part 2, just grossed $381 million. Several company leaders are asking themselves how they might influence this pattern. More and more companies are making use of game – based learning quite effectively. Among the main workplace advantages of gambling is that it may educate players effectively about complicated systems through cause-and-effect realizations.

Eastlink Hacking DNS queries

Eastlink are employing a dirty tactic that makes money on your DNS or domain name server lookups, if the lookup fails – let’s say you get a site that does not exist you may be getting served this page – which is a redirect to search results powered Yahoo and ads as seen by the blue line in the image.

I think this is sneaky because I didn’t request it, I am fine with the default Chrome page cannot be found, as I use this to search with SEOquake on domains.

eastlink search result page

As you can see my DNS queries have been hijacked. Although they say this is not malware or spyware it isn’t far off, as adware often runs when looking up certain domain names or keyword searches.

I suggest you remove eastlinks DNS and try Google’s. Here are instructions.

Project Management

Companies large and small who utilize project management software invariably see a significant increase in the productivity of their affected operations due to its use. The tasks of management in business are not merely assigning tasks and goals to a group of managers, or even to an individual. Instead, task management involves a varied and complex scheduling process that can be properly executed to a successful end if, and only if, proper planning is performed before the first step of the process is implemented. It would be correct to mention, I feel, that if proper planning is not performed at the beginning of the project, unexpected and of course, unplanned for obstacles will hinder the progress. In fact, if the obstacles are not cleared up immediately, progress could eventually stall or become stagnant, ending any hope of finishing the project with its goals accomplished.

To gain a better understanding of the benefits of using project management software, below is a list of the main components of this type of software, along with a brief description for each: ” Planning phase. As was mentioned previously, proper planning is crucial to the success of the project. During this phase, the goals must clearly outlined and this phase must be completed without any misunderstanding of the timeline for completion. Keep in mind that using project management software is a huge benefit if this phase is understood to be perhaps the most important.

There is an old saying with regard to information. That is, “garbage in, garbage out.” The point here is to make sure that all of the information in the planning phase is accurate and is placed in the proper order. Another point to make about the planning phase is that through brainstorming, as an example, all possible obstacles should be noted and proper steps for prevention should be drafted. ” Workload. This is one area where project management software will show its amazing abilities. Once the workload and hours required for completion of the project are known (from the planning phase), this information can be input into the software. ” Hours of availability.

This parameter is required for the software to properly plan necessary steps to complete the project within budget and time constraints. Cost management. Of course, a project that is over budget is not a satisfactory element of a project’s completion. Although it is understood that sometimes-unexpected expenses do occur, and good project management software will spot cost overruns before the tasks are started. Additionally, the software will always alert the user about other cost related situations that could cause the project to go over budget.

Multi-user license: Depending on the size of the organization, purchasing a multi-user license should be considered as a necessary expense. Normally, expert training on the software is available through the manufacturer, along with readily available effective and timely support. Currently, several companies exist that offer very good project management software programs for organizations large and small. Productivity and on-time project completion is more important in today’s business world than at any other time in history due to tight budgets, limited resources (doing more with less), and fierce global competition. Mastering the use of project management software can greatly enhance a company’s position in the world marketplace by streamlining operations and becoming as efficient as possible.
